The Rhythms of Ordinary Time at YTI

After a busy summer with classes, meetings, and special events, YTI is getting back into the rhythm of our own “ordinary time.” Regular class schedules, new faculty, expanding programs, and new dimensions to our vision are all part of ordinary time at YTI.

The ‘Green Season’

In the long-standing tradition of the church, autumn is in the heart of the green season—an extensive tract of the liturgical calendar known as Ordinary Time. Far from being monotonous, this season should be all about living a vibrant, well-ordered life as we walk with Christ.

Plodding: An Ordinary Article for Ordinary People

I once told mom, “I feel like I’m a jack- of-all-trades and the master of none.” My words were a thinly veiled way of saying, “I’m ordinary.” Because in my mind, compared to my elementary school classmates, I didn’t measure up. It’s been over fifty years since that brief conversation with mom. Since then, I’ve recognized that being ordinary can be extraordinary.

The Adventure of the Ordinary

Adventure is an apt way to describe the authentic Christian life. Not knowing what is next, not knowing who will need the love and faith you possess, and not knowing the extent of the trials that will come your way are part of the adventure. The mind of Christ says, “yes!” and “YES!” to these opportunities.

Shaping Our Lives: A Daily Liturgy for ‘Ordinary’ Time

I am not talking about what most of us would call daily devotions or a quiet time. I am talking about something that happens multiple times a day—a rhythm if you will of prayer, reading, and meditation. It is something that helps me maintain my focus on God and realize that all is gift.
