Dr. Scott Hamilton discusses addiction and recovery on Boise’s KBXL radio

KBXL 94.1 The Voice  |  August 5, 2015

Dr. Scott Hamilton, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling at Yellowstone Theological Institute, spent some time in the studios of KBXL 94.1 The Voice in Boise, Idaho, for an interview on the station’s daily show Extra with Doug Hardy on Wednesday, August 5. Dr. Hamilton joined a regular weekly conversation Hardy has with Mark Renick of ISMI Hope Community Phase II.

Dr. Hamilton was in Boise teaching a weeklong class on Introducation to Christian Recovery Group Ministries. During the interview, Dr. Hamilton, Hardy, and Renick discussed a number of issues related to helping people on the road to recovery through spiritual and clinical means.

“Pastors – I think – find themselves ill-equipped,” Dr. Hamilton observed during the interview. “It’s not your average everyday issue that walks into your church, at least where I come from. [People with addictions] show up on occasion, and you find people who are literally unprepared and get anxious themselves. And when people get anxious, they retreat. And when they retreat, then sometimes opportunities are missed.”
