OT Prophets and Poetry – Week 1
January 7, 2019 | 6:00-9:00 PM | Bozeman, MT
Of all the Old Testament books, the books of the prophets and poets provide the great challenge for interpretation and application. If you are minister wanting a brush-up or simply an interested lay person wanting to broaden your scriptural knowledge base, this course is for you.
The Old Testament is vast, spanning from the creation of the cosmos to the exile of God’s people Israel. In this course, we examine the particular contexts, images, and stories of the prophetic and poetic books within their historical contexts (1 Chronicles-Malachi), focusing on theology and interpretation to show how these scriptures inform the grand narrative of God.
(May be taken as BIB 202 for 2 credits in YTI’s Master of Applied Theology and Diploma of Christian Theology programs, or audited for personal enrichment. This course may also be taken as a 1-week intensive from January 28–February 1.)
Dr. Rachel Toombs (Ph.D., Baylor University) is professor of theology and Old Testament. Her research interests intersect theology, biblical studies, and literature with a specific interest in Flannery O’Connor, philosophical hermeneutics/theological interpretation, and how reading shapes our theological imagination.
