Welcome to Our New Staff and Faculty

As YTI turns a corner, we have been able to secure the presence of several new staff and faculty members. Their participation in the vision of YTI comes at a very important time in our existence. Let’s welcome our new collaborators!

Melissa Smith

Director of Operations

Melissa Smith

Melissa comes to us from Montana State University, where she served as an administrator in the School of Music and the Museum of the Rockies. Melissa’s resume also reflects a career of event management and institutional outreach as a band director and house manager at the Mount Baker Theater in Bellingham, Wash. Melissa is married to Jay (yes, that Jay) and is the mother of two grown daughters. Welcome, Melissa!

Eric Young

Western Washington & Intern Program Recruiter

Eric Young

Eric Young comes to YTI from the Christ the King Church network in Bellingham, Wash., where he coordinated the intern programs for a growing church network. Eric continues to minister at Christ the King Church in Ferndale, Wash., as he works with YTI recruiting in Western Washington and developing our intern network. Eric is married to Savannah and they have three young children. Welcome, Eric!

Susan Rose

Lecturer of Christian Vocation

Susan Rose

Susan Rose comes to YTI after a long term as the Director of University Campus Ministries at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Additionally, Susan has served in a variety of local Presbyterian church ministries in Fayetteville and other locations. She is working on her Doctorate of Ministry degree at Portland Seminary, and will be working with YTI’s student body on the concepts of Christian vocation and practical theology. Susan is married to Dave and they have two grown sons. Welcome, Susan!

Todd King

Visiting Lecturer in Christian Leadership

Todd King

Todd King is pastor of Mercer Creek Church in Ellensburg, Wash. Following graduation from Wheaton College in the 1980s, Todd began his ministry career with Willow Creek Church. While at Willow Creek, Todd was exposed to some of the greatest church leadership thinkers in North America. Todd left Willow Creek and moved to churches in California, Oregon, and Washington. Prior to coming to Mercer Creek, Todd worked as Executive Pastor with the Christ the King Church network. Todd is a specialist in contemporary congregational leadership strategies. Todd is married to Karynn and has two grown sons. Welcome, Todd!

Jonathan Owens

Occasional Lecturer in World Religions

Jonathan Owens

Jonathan Owens is pastor of Bozeman Christian Reformed Church. He comes from the Reformed church tradition and has a B.A. from Calvin College, an M.Div. from Calvin Theological Seminary, and a Certificate in Islamic Studies & Abadi Jurisprudence from Sultan Qaboos University with Hartford Seminary and the Al Amana Centre (Oman), and he is currently working on his Ph.D. at Vrije Universiteit (Netherlands) in Global Christianity. Jonathan is married to Jennifer and they have two young daughters. Welcome, Jonathan!

Nathan Chambers

Nathan Chambers

Dr. Nathan Chambers is associate pastor of Wiser Lake Chapel in Lynden, Wash. Nathan is from the Presbyterian tradition, and he holds a B.A. from Northwest University (Seattle) in Philosophy, an M.A. from Regent College (Vancouver, B.C.) in Old Testament, and a Ph.D. from the University of Durham in England in Old Testament. Nathan is an Old Testament specialist, with an emphasis in the Torah. He is married to Kelsey and they have four children. Welcome, Nathan!

Ashley Denton

Professor of Outdoor Leadership and World Missions

Recently relocating to Bozeman from Fort Collins, Colo., Dr. Ashley Denton is the author of Christian Outdoor Leadership: Theology, Theory, and Practice and is the Sr. Vice President & Chief Operations Officer of Nexus International as well as the Director of Wilderness Ministry Institute. He has a Doctoral degree in Missions and Cross-Cultural Studies from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, a Master’s in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from University of Arizona. Involved in over 62 countries, his ministry encourages and equips indigenous leaders in the heart and skills to introduce young people to Jesus Christ through combining relational youth ministry and outdoor adventure. He was formerly on staff with Young Life for 15 years and served as their National Director in New Zealand. He has also taught at Denver Seminary and Colorado Christian University. Ashley is married to Becky and has five children. Welcome, Ashley!
