In the Fall of 2025, YTI is relaunching our Master of Divinity program. The purpose of the MDiv degree is to prepare persons for vocational—often ordained—ministry. From the very beginning, YTI has been concerned that the “status quo” MDiv degree often falls short of this goal (and we have plenty of anecdotal reports from pastors and church leaders who concur!)

Vocational ministry takes place in an intensely communal context and requires deep knowledge of Scripture, theology, and culture, as well as a wide range of skills in communication, organizational leadership, counseling, and discipleship. It further requires the personal growth and spiritual formation of the minister. All this can only take place if aspiring ministers are exposed to both the classroom and the church, sitting both under the instruction of the professor and under the guidance of a spiritual mentor. And all this takes time and investment.

As we have continued to train students at YTI over the past couple of years, our conviction that we need to offer a Master of Divinity degree has only been confirmed, and so our commitment to the vision of a renewed MDiv program has deepened.

In order to meet the demands of vocational ministry and better prepare our students for it, our MDiv program will consist of:

  • Foundational level and higher-level courses in Bible, Theology, Spirituality, Cultural Studies, Leadership, Communication, Worship, and more!
  • An investment of time outside the classroom, where professors and students meet regularly to discuss course material and ministry.
  • A mentored ministry and internship component, including spiritual direction.
  • In-person community events, geared towards fostering friendship and community.

We believe that this revised Master of Divinity program will better equip students for the work of ministry and edification of the body of Christ, and so it is with great excitement and anticipation that we are opening the program for enrollment in the Fall of 2025.
