BIB 630 - Discipleship in Mark's Gospel
3 credits
The disciples are Jesus’ constant companions in the Gospel of Mark, from their initial call in chapter 1 through their astonishment at the empty tomb in the book’s closing verses. Yet, their track record is mixed at best, as they repeatedly fail to understand Jesus’ teaching, exhibit lack of faith, and fall far short of their Master’s example of faithfulness and love. This advanced Bible course will survey Mark’s Gospel with special attention to its account of discipleship, including the call to discipleship, the nature of following Jesus as Master, the place of failure in the disciple’s life, and the implications of this gospel’s account for how we follow Jesus today.
