ART 531 - Introduction to Theology & the Arts

3 credits

Why do human beings experience attraction to the fine and performing arts? Why is art such a powerful representative of the human experience, including its experience of the divine? ART 531 presents a history of the integration of belief and artistic creation. In this process, the student will come to understand the role of the imagination as the conduit for aesthetics in human understanding and the role of the arts in social commentary and social justice and will develop a rudimentary theology of the arts.
