‘Wonderful Counselor’
For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness
From then on and forevermore.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.
— Isaiah 9:6–7
Christ came to this Earth as a helpless infant; yet He is the fulfillment of our every need. Amazingly, He continues to do so even today for you and me!
He is Counselor to the foolish, mighty God, and protector to the helpless, He is Father to the orphan, and peace to the distraught.
We were created for the sole purpose of “being with God,” and in Him, we have all that we need and so much more.
Often, I feel the urge to take control and accomplish tasks in my own strength, or to find fulfillment outside of the Lord. Yet this passage reminds us that it is only through Jesus that every necessary task and every possible role needed for us to live a full, blessed life is made possible. He carries the whole world on His shoulders, and yet He still wants you and me to live the life He has set out for us! We can rest in that knowledge.
